Admission Requirements
The Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Data Science is a two-year advanced program designed to equip students with practical, work-ready data science skills for immediate application in industry, government, and applied research.
The program consists of four courses totaling 120 credit points: one compulsory course on Research Methodology and three applied data science courses selected from five options. Designed for graduates in computing, mathematics, and statistics, this programme equips students with advanced data science expertise, including applications in renewable energy and applied statistics.
The flexible course structure enables students to tailor their learning pathway to align with their interests and career goals, whether in advanced analytics, applied statistics, renewable energy, or related fields.
The program focuses on real-world, tool-based learning with hyflex delivery supporting both in-person and remote participation. Each course combines hands-on lab sessions, project-based assessments, and industry-relevant case studies using widely adopted tools, cloud platforms, and big data technologies.
Students will develop practical expertise in data analysis, statistical modelling, predictive analytics, data visualization, scalable big data processing, and energy modelling and forecasting. The curriculum is designed to ensure students gain applied, workplace-relevant experience while developing the ability to solve real problems and communicate insights effectively.
Upon completion, graduates will be prepared for roles such as data analyst, business intelligence specialist, analytics consultant, or applied data scientist, contributing directly to data-informed decision-making in both public and private sectors.
Persons shall be eligible to be admitted to study for a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Data Science if :
✅ A person has a Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.0 in Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related Science discipline, and has successfully completed an introductory course in Data Science or Data Analytics; OR
✅ A tertiary qualification deemed by Senate or its delegate to be equivalent to the criteria in (i); OR
✅A professional qualification deemed by Senate or its delegate to be equivalent to the criteria in (i); OR
✅ In exceptional cases, demonstrated experience or achievement as per the programme requirements as deemed by Senate or its delegate to be sufficient; OR
✅ Eligibility under the mature student admission criteria.
