The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Prem Misir, attended Commonwealth Youth Section Meeting and The Association of Commonwealth Universities on September 28, 2017, in London, United Kingdom. The meeting resulted in various outcomes for the University of Fiji.
While at the meeting with the Head of Programmes Commonwealth Youth Section (ESSD) Mr. Layne Robinson and Assistant Programmes Officer Mr. Sionlelei Mario, Professor Prem Misir highlighted that there was an increase in the percentage of youth dropouts at higher education institutions, particularly at high schools .
He further stated that there is an urgent need to focus on youth empowerment in Fiji with the intention to improve socio- economic status. In this regard, the ESSD will be hosting a Youth Forum at The University of Fiji, Saweni Campus, on February 20, 2018. The forum will focus on youth and student engagement. The forum will be attended by over 50 youth from the ESSD as well as local youth.
The forum will coincide with the Commonwealth Minister’s Meeting (CCEM), scheduled for February 21-23, 2017 and the Integrated Partners Forum between February 19-21, 2017 in Fiji.
