Role of Unifiji Library |
The major
role is to provide satisfactory services to the students
and surroundings conducive to study.Unifiji Library
provides a quiet space to study; access to materials
that the users require from the general section; newspapers,
journals, brochures and magazines for current affairs
update and research; access to electronic research materials,the
Internet; and photocopying and printing services.

The University
of Fiji Library follows the international catalogue
scheme, which is the Library of Congress (largest library
of the world) cataloguing system.

| Services |
Apart from several reference books and other major collection
of books, the Unifiji Library also provides Internet access
to students for research and academic purposes, a section
for current affairs update which includes all local newspapers,
and printing and photocopying services that are available
to users at a certain cost. The Library is well furnished
with facilities such as fans, lights and air conditioners.

| Tasks like issuing/returning
of books, answering general questions, printing and photocopying
are performed here. |
Materials in
heavy demand are kept in this area located at the main
issue desk. This includes books, CD ROMs, and photocopies
of articles recommended by the faculty for course readings.

This section
has shelves containing books, which are classified according
to the library of Congress cataloging system. Users have
access to these shelves and can obtain research materials
for studying, photocopying and printing. |
Users can sit
at these tables for study and research purposes, and can
have access to the 4 computers kept for electronic research
purposes. |

Staff |
| The
staff are loaned books for the semester because these
are usually the books that they use for the entire semester. |
| Students |
| Students
are issued books from the Reserve collection for 2 hours
for each book. They can take books from the General collection
for overnight loans provided they present their ID cards. |
|
The University of Fiji library
has developed well with a large donation from Mr. and Mrs. Raj Padam
Lala and donations of over 5,000 books from the Japan Foundation,
and scholars in Australia, Singapore, Hawaii, India and Fiji. Planning
is underway for a new Library building in 2010. |
