Scholarships and Loans

The University of Fiji offers tuition loans to students from very challenging financial backgrounds.

Applications for this University Scholarship/ Loan Scheme are open after the Semester 1 enrolments. (Specific dates and details are emailed to all students after enrolment on UniFiji Student mail).

Please collect the application for Scholarship/Loan form from the Reception at the Saweni and Suva Campuses and fill it in. This form is also available on this website under the academic forms link. OR This form is also available for download below and under Students > Forms. Completely fill out these form, supply certified true copies of the required documents and you will need to get the forms endorsed by a District Councilor, Roko Tui or District Officer. Your parents/guardians will also be required to complete a declaration in the presence of these personnel. You will be required to submit this form before the deadline specified on the form to Student Academic Services, The University of Fiji, Private Mail Bag, Lautoka, Fiji Islands or scan and email with all required documents to admissions@unifiji.ac.fj or info@unifiji.ac.fj.

Providing false declarations, certifications of endorsements or giving of false information will disqualify your application and you will not be considered for the Scholarship/Loan Scheme. Incomplete applications will also not be considered.

A student is eligible to apply for the University Scholarship/Loan Scheme if they have been permanently residing in Fiji, have been given a full admission into a degree, diploma or certificate programme at the University; are fully supported by parents/guardians whose combined gross annual income does not exceed FJD10, 000; and meet any other condition(s) imposed by the Scholarships and Loans Committee.

Those currently serving or required to serve a bond for any other scholarship are ineligible to apply.

The tuition loans are granted on an yearly basis and are based on merit performance, thus, are not automatic. A student who had been considered for tuition loan for the previous year, will be re- considered by the Scholarships and Loans committee only if they reapply and have obtained good grades the previous year.

Tuition loan funding is partial only, is granted for the whole year and covers partial payment of tuition fees. Students will be required to pay for the remaining balances themselves.

The University Scholarships and Loans Committee will meet in April and decide on your application. A response will be sent you via phone, mailbag or email two weeks after this meeting.

If your application is successful, you will be required to complete a bond form and other requirements specified by the Scholarships and Loans Committee to be awarded the tuition loan. You will have to abide by University rules and meet other conditions as set out by the Scholarships and Loans Committee.
