The Western Fiji Cricket Association donated two sets of cricket training equipment to the University on 16th July. The Operations Manager of Western Fiji Cricket Association, Mr. Gaurang Patel, came to the Saweni Campus to present the equipment to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muralidhar. Mr. Patel said that the Fiji Cricket Association also plans to provide two coaches to the University to assist budding cricketers. While accepting the gift from Mr. Patel, Professor Muralidhar thanked the Cricket Association for the ‘timely gift’ and said that the University had just established a Sports Association and needed such sports equipment.
The coordinator of the University’s Sports Club, Dr Ranasinghe Amaradasa, was also present and was delighted with the
kind donation. Has been working closely with the students and has formed teams for both males and females. The staff and students are extremely grateful to the Cricket Association for their timely support and are keen to promote and develop the sport at the University. The University also aims to participate in the inter-tertiary cricket competition and the local club competition which is normally held in Suva and Lautoka twice a year.
