Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting (Double Major)

The accounting programme offered at the University of Fiji is fully accredited from the Fiji Institute of Accountants (FIA) and CPA Australia. The Council of the Fiji Institute of Accountants and CPA Australia have welcomed and endorsed the accreditation of the University’s Bachelor of Commerce degree.

The programme seeks to provide entry level technical knowledge for undertaking professional employment in both the private and public sectors. This knowledge will include Financial and Managerial Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, Finance and Systems.

The programme aims to develop both technical and generic skills. In particular the ability to produce financial reports using the International Financial Reporting system. Also, to develop skills to be able to participate in the auditioning and assurance processes in compliance with the FIA standards on Auditing. Furthermore, be able to use technology to analyse and solve accounting problems.

Degree graduates with both a single and double major will be available to fill positions within the public and private sectors. The positions are likely to cover a broad area of the sectors such as, Public Accounting Firms, Business and Finance, Government Finance, auditing and taxation departments. It is expected that graduates, in addition to having the appropriate technical skills to add value to their employer, will also be strong ethically and have a commitment to the development of Fiji Society.

Graduates will be able to take their place and be full participants in the Global Knowledge/Information society with a particular reference to the Fiji context. There is an increasing demand for entry level graduates because of the continued outward migration and increasing recognition of the need to employ graduates.
