Bachelor of Arts in iTaukei Language and Culture (Double Major)

The Centre for ITaukei Studies (CIS) plays a major role in the study of Fijian language, culture, society, economy and leadership as well as encouraging the development of an inclusive and united Fiji where its ethnic population can develop a greater understanding and respect for one another.

In pursuance of this important role, the Centre’s programme of studies comprises of courses in Fijian Language and Culture, major issues of concern to the indigenous Fijian people, and contemporary Fijian issues, in an inclusive sense, in a rapidly changing and globalizing world.

These courses when successfully completed will lead to the award of either a Diploma in Fijian Language and Culture or a major in a Bachelors Degree programme. CIS anticipates the Diploma and Degree courses to qualify graduates to teach Fijian in schools, especially now that Fijian is complusory in all schools.

Other achievable jobs/careers include working in Fijan Administration, interpreters (for instance, in court and tourism) translation work (books, legal documents etc.), media (for example, as reporters, radio announcers and journalists).

Fijian is also offered to non – Fijian speaking students as part of UniFiji’s effort to bring better understanding between the various cultural groups.
