Professor Altaisaikhan Khasag has been appointed as the new Academic Dean of the University of Fiji’s Umanand Prasad School of Medicine (UPSM). He arrived in the country on Friday 22 July with his family.Professor Altaisaikhan has had a distinguished academic and professional career. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine from the National Medical University of Mongolia in 1991, followed by a postgraduate residency in Medicine and endocrinology. He then completed a doctorate in Metabolism and Endocrinology from Shimone Medical University, Japan, in 2002.
From 2003-2008, Professor Altaisaikhan was Dean of the School of Medicine, Health Sciences University of Mongolia and was promoted to the position of Professor of Medicine. The most recent position he held was that of Vice-President for Clinical Affairs at the Health Sciences University of Mongolia.
Professor Altaisaikhan is deeply interested in Medical Education, and has done extensive work with the World Health Organisation (WHO) on the National Programme on NCD control and prevention in Mongolia. Apart from his mother tongue, Professor Altaisaikhan is quite proficient in Russian, Japanese and English.
Vice Chancellor Professor Srinivasiah Muralidhar said that he looked forward to Professor Altaisaikhan’s contributions to the UPSM and to the University of Fiji.
